VAN BUREN READS WELCOMES AUTHOR WADE ROUSE
DECATUR, MI—–After months of preparation and planning, Van Buren Reads is soon to introduce this year’s visiting author to the public.
Wade Rouse offers insight into his novels and memoirs at the Van Buren Conference Center, Lawrence, on Tuesday, October 3, 6:30 pm.
“Nothing pleases me more than to meet readers in person,” Rouse says. “I’m excited about the program and honored to participate.”
Rouse, best known in previous years as a memoirist, has found his voice as a novelist with the publication of The Charm Bracelet and The Hope Chest. Both books, and 2018’s The Recipe Box, are written under the name of Viola Shipman.
“Viola Shipman was my maternal grandmother. While growing up in the Missouri Ozarks in a town with very few people, I spent many afternoons and weekends with her in her kitchen and sewing room. Putting my grandmother’s name on my fiction is a small thank-you to her and my family.”
The novels are generational stories that reflect the grace and strength of a family facing the challenges of compromised health and the progression of age.
“These heirlooms – a charm bracelet, hope chest and recipe box – meant the world to my family. As I age, my family’s memorabilia takes on even greater importance as do their stories.”
While the novels evoke a world of nostalgia and the healing properties of life and love, Rouse’s works, both fiction and nonfiction, are also imbued with his keen sense of humor and sparkling wit.
The author promises a light-hearted evening on October 3 from the point-of-view of both Rouse and Shipman. The program is free and open to the public.
