VBDL ANNOUNCES DIRECTOR’S RESIGNATION
DECATUR, MICHIGAN – – – – “Piglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude.” A. A. Milne’s words echo the sentiment felt by Van Buren District Library as the Board of Trustees announces the resignation of Library Director Ryan Wieber effective July 25.
Wieber, who took the helm of the seven-facility library system in January 2013, has been named Director of Kalamazoo Public Library, effective August 1. During Wieber’s tenure at VBDL, he forged a new direction for the system by overseeing the development and implementation of a long-range strategic plan, updating technology infrastructure and services, reinvigorating programming, and supervising the creation of a fresh and revitalized image for the district.
“I have had great experiences at Van Buren District Library,” Wieber says. “I have enjoyed working with a supportive library board, a staff dedicated toward providing library services that make a difference in their respective communities, and patrons who treasure their local libraries. I leave with many great memories of how all of us together – staff, board trustees, Friends of the Library members and volunteers – provided a library environment that has added value for Van Buren residents.”
Board President Sandra Hansen says the trustees, staff, and patrons greatly appreciate Wieber’s achievements. “We see the benefits of Ryan’s innovative leadership over the past four-and-a-half years and thank him for all that he’s accomplished at Van Buren District Library. We wish him continued success in his new position.”
In other library news, the board approved the appointment of long-time VBDL employee Molly Wunderlich to the position of Assistant Director.
VBDL is headquartered at Webster Memorial Library in Decatur, with branches in Bangor, Bloomingdale, Covert, Gobles, Lawrence and Mattawan.
