VBDL GETS READY FOR SUMMER READERS
DECATUR, MICHIGAN – – – – Van Buren District Library invites readers of all ages to participate in the annual summer reading program, June 12 through August 5.
Over the course of eight weeks, children and adults are encouraged to read for fun and incentives, attend a variety of hands-on programs, learn about their communities, enjoy nature and more.
This year’s theme, Build a Better Community, is evident at the Gobles Branch, especially between June 19 and July 31. The library is making supplies available for six weeks so young patrons can build or draw what they think a new Gobles Branch should look like.
The theme in Bloomingdale expands globally when Mr. Jim Merrills demonstrates how to build landmarks from around the world, June 27.
Five VBDL branches are going boldly to create a greater understanding of one of nature’s true marvels – a solar eclipse. Richard Bell of the Kalamazoo Astronomical Society will visit the Antwerp Sunshine Branch, Mattawan; Bangor, Covert and Lawrence branches, and Webster Memorial Library, Decatur, to provide insight into the Great American Solar Eclipse of 2017. Free eclipse viewing glasses will be available while supplies last.
For a complete summer schedule, visit the closest VBDL branch, access the online calendar at www.vbdl.org, or phone 269.423.4771. Van Buren District Library is headquartered in Decatur with branches in Bangor, Bloomingdale, Covert, Gobles, Lawrence and Mattawan.
