1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Sign up for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten at your local VBDL branch and get your child on the path to becoming a reader!
1000 Books Before Kindergarten is just as it sounds, read 1000 or more books to your child before they start kindergarten. You can start at any time between birth and the first day of kindergarten. Once you sign up for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, you are given a booklet to keep track of how many books your child reads and so you can earn fun prizes along the way.Â
1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a great way to encourage literacy and the love of reading in your little ones, and the whole family can help! Every books that is read to your child counts, including any read by siblings, grandparents, sitters, or teachers. Does 1000 books seem like a lot? While it may seem daunting, just one book a night gets you 365 books in a year, 730 books in two years, and 1,095 books after three years! Children also tend to have favorite books, so you can read the same book over and over, and every time you read it, it counts towards the 1000 books.
