VOTERS TO DETERMINE VBDL BEST BOOKS OF 2017
DECATUR, MICHIGAN – – – – The nominations are in and the final ballot is ready for voters to determine Van Buren District Library’s Best Books of 2017.
The competition is tight in eleven categories ranging from Best Adult Fiction and Nonfiction to Best Young Adult Graphic Novel and Children’s book. A special Lifetime Achievement category features works from 1813, 1969 and 1978.
Will one of the winners be Paula Hawkins’ Into the Water or Jesmyn Ward’s critically acclaimed Sing, Unburied, Sing? Will the nominee that explores the modernization of the FBI defeat the biography that “humanizes, but doesn’t rehabilitate” its subject? Or will the classic quote, “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife” trounce “bumpty, bumpty, bump”?
Votes may be cast online at VBDL.org or on paper ballots available at any VBDL location through Saturday, February 24. The public is invited to the formal awards ceremony, complete with red carpet, Friday, March 2, 1:00 pm, VBDL Covert Branch. The event is free and open to the public.
For more information, visit VBDL.org or visit the nearest VBDL location. Van Buren District Library is headquartered at Webster Memorial Library in Decatur, with branches in Bangor, Bloomingdale, Covert, Gobles, Lawrence and Mattawan.
