Adventures in Polyclay

This began when the Bloomingdale branch offered a class on polyclay bead making. I wasn’t able to make beads that day because I was home sick, but my sister went to it and showed me pictures of things that everyone made. It was so simple, she said. Just take the clay and blend this with that, layer this like that, slice them this way, fold theindexm that way…. Honestly, how hard could it be?
I found out that my sister had been convinced to “teach” a class on making polyclay mini figures after they saw the little flying pig and owl and a few other things that she had just whipped up while everyone else was making beads. I gotta admit the little flying pig was adorable!
I planned on going the day she was teaching (just to observe, I said) and sat at the far end of the table while she showed the ladies step-by-step how to make a thing she called a lump bunny. You start with a lump of clay, add ears, arms, a tail and use small tools to create indentations for the hind legs and define the face. So simple!
I didn’t make a lump bunny. No. I figured if my sister can make lump bunnies, flying pigs, mini ice cream cones and hamburgers, I was going to go one better. I was going to make a chameleon; and not just any chameleon, but one that was multi-colored. I decided it was going to go from green to blue to purple and have a little tail that curled under and weird eyes and three toed feet. And look like a chameleon – a real one. That is, if a real one was green, blue and purple. And only about one and a half inches long.
I kind of surprised myself because it turned out really well. I took it home and baked it according to the instructions. Now I have to glaze it or something. I’ll have to ask my sister about that one. Then I’ll need to decide what to do with it. I didn’t put a little eye pin in it so that I could turn it into jewelry or something like that. Maybe I’ll bring it in to work and put the little guy on the top of my computer screen.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
