Scott Snyder known for his work on the indie series American Vampire and Greg Capullo who illustrated issues of the image comic’s series Spawn, for the last 3 years have been killing it on DC Comics’ Batman. Batman comics are like pizza, even when they’re bad, they’re still good. In the case of Snyder and Capullo their work is some of the best this book has seen since Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Year one. They continue to add to the Batman mythos while still paying respect and homage to previous creators and stories.
As the series progresses Scott delves deeper into the mystery of the Court of Owls, reintroduces Batman’s arch-nemesis, the Joker, and revamps the Batman origin for the 21st century. Batman Vol. 1 the Court of Owls is a good jumping on point for new readers interested in the further exploits of the caped crusader. The book sets up pretty much everything you need to know plus introduces you to a new Batman villain. I can’t wait to see what Scott and Greg do next!
